Setup Email delivery on your Personal Computer or Mobile Phone.

These days almost everyone wants their email saved on their computer or accessible on their phone. Here at Integris we do not leave you wanting and we provide this capability to every one of our packages and users. To take advantage of the best setup for you lets talk about a few email details. (Don't worry we will try to keep this short)

If you just want the settings they are:

Incoming and Outgoing Server URL: green02.integrishosting.com

Port:

Secure TLS

Secure SSL

Non-Secure

IMAP

143

993

143

POP3

110

995

110

SMTP

587

465

25, 587, 2525

Your Username is your full email address.
The Password is what you set when you created the account.

Secure TLS is recommended followed by Secure SSL. In some email programs like those from Microsoft you can only choose SSL.

If you need more explanation of what these numbers mean please keep reading.

First some common terms defined and explained:

  • Incoming and Outgoing Server - This is the addres to your mail. If you have a SSL certificate on your site you can use your own domain. Otherwise use green1.integrishosting.com

  • Hostname - The hostname is a address that points to servers.

  • URL: Uniform Resource Locator - This is commonly referred to as the web address to a website. For example our URL is integrishosting.com.

  • Port: Ports are numbered addresses that allow computers the ability to know what information goes to what application or program. In email each protocol (POP, IMAP, and SMTP) has its own port and different security options change the port as well.

  • POP: Post Office Protocol - This is a method to recieve emails and download them to your device. The most important thing to remember is that using POP will store all email on your computer and usually removes the email's from the server.

  • IMAP: Internet Message Access Protocol - This is another method to recieve emails to your device. The difference is that IMAP does not store that many emails on your device. It is mainly retrieving the emails you select when you try to access them. This is great for mobile devices without much memory and is also why you cannot see all your emails when you do not have internet service.

  • SMTP: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol - This is the method to send emails from one server to another.

  • TLS: Transport Layer Security - This is a security protocol that starts a connection on a non secure port then switches to a secure mode that both clients have to authenticate before they can transmit data.

  • SSL: Secure Socket Layer - This is an older security method that is still in use and secure. The main difference between the two is that SSL starts its connection with security enabled. Some programs only know how to use SSL and cannot take advantage of the benefits of TLS..

When you setup an email client on your computer you will need to know your email address, password to access the account, the protocol you would like to use when downloading, the server address, port, and the security type to use.

Your username (full email address user@domain.tld) and password for any of the connections will be the same. Also when setting up SMTP please ensure you enable option titled "This Server Requires Authentication".

Now lets start with secure mail settings. Using a secure connection to get your email prevents your neighbors and other snoopers from being able to see what email comes to you and we like to think that privacy is good.

All secure setups at Integris Hosting should use the Hostname URL of green02.integrishosting.com.
SMTP (outgoing) uses port 587 for TLS and port 465 for SSL.
IMAP (mobile incoming) uses port 143 for TLS and 993 for SSL.
POP (desktop incoming) uses port 110 for TLS and port 995 for SSL.

If you would like to connect without secure settings you can use the Hostname URL mail.yourdomain.com. SMTP uses port 587, IMAP 143, and POP 110.

Some quick FAQ and troubleshooting tips.

  • Why do I need the green02.integrishosting.com? When you connect using a secure method that connection is checked using a security certificate. These certificates use a third party to validate the connection being made between your device and our server. If you have your own security certificate then you can use your domain and still be valid through a third party service. If you use your domain with security you will still be able to connect but you will get a warning that the mail servers name does not match the URL of your site. That is because our mail server is named green1.integrishosting.com. These mismatched connections still transmit data securely but there is less confidence that your server is the real Integris Hosting server. There is usually a way to bypass this warning and continue the connection but it is best to use the actual URL green1.integrishosting.com.

  • Why cant I connect on the default port of 25? We have had users that were being blocked from sending mail on port 25. This was done by their ISP (mainly AT&T.) Port 25 is commonly used to send massive amounts of spam mail and some have taken proactive steps to stop this abuse. For this reason ports 587 and 2525 are good replacements for the default port 25.
